We won 5 positions on the UAW IEB! Now, let’s finish the job!
The UAW's first-ever direct election of International Executive Board Officers has now concluded, and the will of our membership has been made clear! Members from across our union have demanded a new and positive direction, with leaders who are committed to building a more democratic, transparent, and militant organization.
Five officers were elected outright from the UAW Members United team: Margaret Mock for Secretary-Treasurer (with 63%!), Mike Booth and Rich Boyer for Vice President, LaShawn English for Region 1 Director, and Brandon Mancilla for Region 9A Director. Another reformer, Dave Green, was elected Region 2B Director. You can view the results here.
Shawn Fain will advance to the runoff election for President, and Daniel Vicente will advance to the runoff for Region 9 Director. Shawn came in less than a percentage point behind Ray Curry, and Dan was the top vote-getter in his race. Ballots for runoffs will be mailed out on January 12 and are due back at the postal facility by February 28.
Now it’s all hands on deck to get Shawn and Dan elected, so new reform leadership can win majority power on the IEB! Can you volunteer to pass out leaflets in your local?
The Members United team is humbled and honored that the membership has elected us to lead the UAW during this historic time.
We want to thank the many UAW members who made their voice heard by casting their vote in this unprecedented election. No matter which candidates you supported, you got involved and fulfilled your duty as a union member and that is to be greatly commended. We thank you.
We would also want to acknowledge the many other candidates in this election who spent so much time and energy campaigning for the vision they believe in. Anyone willing to run against the Administration Caucus to effect change in our union deserves our respect.
The process of directly electing our IEB officers was a new experience for everyone in the UAW. At times, campaigning was contentious and there was often heated debate between candidates. It is our hope that we can come together for the betterment of the members we have all been campaigning to serve, and that all reform candidates will join us to finish the historic mission of electing new leadership to the IEB.
Last, but not least, we would like to express our deep gratitude to the many dedicated volunteers on the Members United campaign who helped make this historic victory possible. Without your hard work, we would never have made it this far.
Members United is steadfastly committed to returning our union back to its founding principles of equality and solidarity among all of our members. We are committed to educating the membership of today to help foster the leaders of tomorrow. We are committed to taking on any employer that refuses to treat our membership with the dignity and respect they deserve. We are committed to ending the practice of company unionism in the UAW.
There is much work to be done, and the systemic change we want to see won’t happen overnight. It will take time and continual dedication from not only our leaders, but from our membership as well, if we are to build the UAW we all believe is possible.
We hope that you will join us in this historic task.
In solidarity,
UAW Members United
